What it means when you sign
This article sets the route for individual labor disputes between an employer and a worker, or anyone entitled through either of them. A party with a dispute over rights under the law applies to the Ministry, which examines the request and works toward an amicable settlement. The Ministry decides the dispute itself when the claim does not exceed 50,000 AED, or when the dispute is about failing to comply with an earlier Ministry settlement, whatever the amount. Either party may appeal to the competent Court of First Instance within 15 working days of being notified of that decision, and that court's judgment is final. Other disputes the Ministry cannot settle are referred to the court with a summary and recommendation. During a dispute the Ministry may require the employer to keep paying wages for up to 2 months.
A court case that does not follow the steps and deadlines here is not accepted. Claims for rights under the law are not heard after two years from the end of the work relationship.
When you are about to sign, a clause sending employment disputes straight to another forum, or setting a shorter or longer claim period, may run into this article.
